THE DISINFORMATION AGE: POLITICS, TECHNOLOGY AND DISRUPTIVE COMMUNICATION IN THE UNITED STATES
This project is a collaboration between Center Senior Research Fellow Lance Bennett and Steven Livingston (The George Washington University) and a group of historians, political scientists, and communication scholars to examine the origins of our current post-fact information era. The project (and book of the same name), reviews the decades-long efforts by political and business interests to undermine authoritative institutions, including parties, elections, public agencies, science, independent journalism, and civil society groups. And it details the parallel rise of a propaganda system on the radical right has further undermined the institutional legitimacy on which authoritative information depends.
