The wide spectrum of opinions, analyses, and lived experiences creates an ambiguous atmosphere around the meaning of solidarity with Iran at this moment. This panel will explore how journalists navigate these complexities, how media coverage shapes public understanding, and what possibilities exist for meaningful solidarity amid evolving political and social realities.

This discussion will bring together journalists and scholars to reflect on media responsibility, transnational perspectives, and the challenges of reporting on Iran in a global media landscape.

This event is hosted by the University of Texas at Austin’s Solidarity Journalism Initiative in partnership with the University of Washington’s Center for Journalism, Media and Democracy (CJMD) , and moderated by Sara Shaban, PhD, author of Iranian Feminism and Transnational Ethics in Media Discourse and Fellow at the CJMD.
